Places to Visit

Prani – The private Pet Sanctuary near Bangalore

This is my first post where I’m writing about an experience with a place. I loved it so much that I want the world to know and support them by visiting this place. Why do I like this place? What to expect and who all can go see? Let’s dive in a little deeper.

What is Prani – The Pet sanctuary all about?

As mentioned in the title it is a Private Pet sanctuary and as per their website, this is an experiential Education park. They have rescued 700+ Animals and birds of 60+ different species. They take people in batches where they Introduce you to an animal, teach you about it, and will let you pet it. One cannot box it into a run-in-the-mill pet shop where you find mostly Dogs, Cats, Parrots, Parakeets, etc., but they have animals ranging from horses, goats, Hedgehog, Guinea Pigs, and Ducks to name a few.

Why do I love this place?

The first thing that I loved was that this place is Kid-friendly. We found a lot of kids in the place all excited to learn new things about the Animals. I even saw excited Adults (including me) because the volunteers there were very knowledgeable and I even learned that there is one another species apart from Tortoise and Turtle, the difference between Pony and a Horse. These might seem silly or very minuscule but they made a great impact on me. Visiting that place made me reminiscent of one of the oldest songs in Tamil Written by Ovvayaar “கற்றது கைமண் அளவு கல்லாதது உலகளவு” which roughly translates to “Known is a drop, unknown is an ocean”.

We were allowed to (especially Kids) touch and hold Guinea Pigs, Hedgehog, Furry big Rabbits, and so many varieties of Birds, Horses, Iguana, Emu, Goats, Turtles, etc., I couldn’t take many photos but will add the videos and pictures of whatever we managed to take. It is not that they don’t allow but we were so engaged that we didn’t take photos.

Who can Visit this place?

Kids especially (please don’t take your Toddlers, they might be disinterested) take kids who are 2 and a half or older. Because they might enjoy seeing and touching animals. They might know more about them and it will be a great experience for them. I intend to take my son once again after he grows older and wants to know more about Animals and the experience remains in his memory.

Pre-requisites before reaching the place:

Prani is open on all days and the Sanctuary opens at 9 AM and closes by 5 PM. I would recommend people to reach the place after having their Breakfast or Lunch because there are no Restaurants around at least for 5 or so kilometers. You can find some Kirana stores some 2 kilometers away otherwise there is nothing. It is mentioned on their Website too. So, plan your day accordingly.

Also, try and don’t wear any sort of Body sprays or perfumes. Since you are visiting a pet sanctuary with a variety of Animals we might not know how smell sensitive they are. You’ll need at least 2 hours to spend inside, if you are taking kids, take some fruits or Biscuits with you. So, that they don’t stay hungry.

The place is very far away and if you are visiting Bangalore next time or if you are in Bangalore do visit this place. It is such a fun experience and I hope you enjoy this place as much as I did. ?
